Cannabis Cultivation

The Accompong Cannabis Trust (ACT) is an organization established by the Accompong Maroon Council (Trustor/Settlor) that aims to promote and facilitate the cultivation of organic ganja and the production of its byproducts in the Accompong space with members of the trust benefiting from the knowledge and economic value derived from the business activities.

The Accompong Cannabis Trust is open to membership registration on March  1, 2024 to  persons of the diaspora. We seek to offer a viable option for cannabis business owners and  growers in the heart of the beautiful Cockpit Country on the Island of Jamaica.

Thank you for your interest in becoming a member of the ACT where you will benefit from a head start to your cannabis grow operations.

Requirements:

  1. Proof  of Identification
  2. Persons will be required to complete the ACT membership form.
  3. Provision of a Business plan summary to the ACT, outlining the type of business being undertaken, to properly determine the land required. 
  4. Interested persons must schedule a visit to Accompong to identify the land parcel they are interested in within 15 days of submission of the application. 
  5. Indicate if residency is also desired. (Residency options include local rentals or each member can construct small housing units for staff/owner on their land parcel. )
  6. Negotiate terms of the lease around the member’s investment.
  7. Payment of the membership fee must be made within 30 days of submission of the lease agreement  and 60 days of submission of this application
  8. Sign the lease agreement.
  9. Submit lease agreement and proof of payment, by email

A: Applications open for the Accompong Cannabis Trust on March 1st. Once individuals complete their registration, negotiate the terms of the lease,  and make their payment to the trust they can begin the process of accessing lands immediately.


A: Membership is $150,000 annually.  Renewal of membership is every 2 years. The Registration and approval process can take up to 2 months. 


A:  A head start to cannabis cultivation on fertile land with basic infrastructure

- Access to discounts on clones, seeds and other cultivation needs

-A ¼ acre of parceled land under lease agreement with the State of Accompong 

-Access to main water system - 500 gallon per member per month*. 

* Each member can  purchase additional water from from the state based on capacity. However each member is only allowed to connect one 1000 gallon tank to the source. We encourage persons to set up their water catchment systems. 

- We encourage persons to set up their sustainable power source solutions. 

- Non-residential membership ID and membership certificates.


A: Each member will be leased a 1/4 acre plot of land for a minimum of  two years at $150,000 annually. Each member can lease up to two (2) additional acres at a cost of $60,000 per acre. These terms will be outlined in the lease agreement with each member.


A: Members of the Trust are entitled to a non-residential Maroon ID. 

This will be provided after approval and payments have been made, along with a certificate of membership.Please note that your Maroon ID entitles you to the protection of the full Maroon Council to operate within the space and be recognized as an indigenous grower. There are further requirements to become a citizen of the State of Accompong. 


A: Requirements For Membership

  • At the Site visit an interview will be done with the member or their proxy.
  • Indicate if residency is also desired. 
    • Residency options include local rentals or each member can construct small housing units for staff/owner on their land parcel.

  • Payment of the membership fee must be made within 30 days of submission of the lease agreement 
  • Sign the lease agreement.


A: Members are expected to have an agreement with The Trust as it relates to the percentage of their harvest / business investment. This may vary based on the contribution/ investment of each member. The Return on Investment for each member will depend on their unique business proposal and projections. We hope to collaborate with members in this regard.  


A: There are several springs within the farming areas that will be developed in order for each plot of land to have access to water. Each member can  purchase additional water from the state based on capacity. However each member is only allowed to connect one 1000 gallon tank to the source. We encourage persons to set up their  sustainable water catchment systems for their operations. 


A: Community development plans of the area are underway and will be rolled out in the short-term. The infrastructural development of the land identified by each member will be outlined in their agreement. 


A: Yes. All equipment will be the responsibility of the member leasing the land.


A: Currently, no. All  Individuals/ members will have to set up their grow operations to their specifications for their unique businesses in accordance with  the standards set out by The Trust. 


A: There are plans to repair state owned Greenhouses that can be utilized in the future by members, based on their unique agreements. The aim of the trust is to promote growth in the cannabis industry for all farmers and so we promote both indoor and outdoor styles of grow operations. 


A: Indoor greenhouse and outdoor growing  standards of the ACT can be found in our Standard Operating Procedures that adhere to international agricultural and cannabis industry standards. These will be provided upon registration. 


A: Members are free to grow & develop their own strains, as long as they adhere to the standards set to protect against pollination with other plants. 


A: There are several locally bred and foreign strains currently being grown in Accompong. 


A: The Trust will aim to provide strains depending on the nature of the agreement, as well as technical advice relative to geography and other technical assistance to farms where possible. Seeds and clones can be provided at a discounted cost to members of the ACT. 



A: Land will be zoned for different types of operation or styles of grow in order to control cross pollination or any other contamination. Operations that involve hemp or breeding must be done indoor and carefully controlled. We have technical experts on the advisory board  that ensure the standards set, once adhered to, will prevent these issues. We will also assign a risk mitigation officer to assist with routine inspections to prevent pollination.


A: There will be maroon farmers in the trust who can be called on for labour.  Members  can bring their own workers, however, there must be a minimum of 40%  local labour.


A: Members and workers (labor force) are expected to establish their own wage agreements with the assistance of The Trust. The Trust can assist in identifying skilled labour and the prescribed wage ranges  for these persons. This should be added/ outlined in the business proposal.


A: This will be dependent on the agreement between the members and the workers/farmers.


A: The Trust aims to provide members with as much technical grow operation knowledge as possible by hosting necessary workshops with our team of technical advisors.


A: Currently the Trust is not exporting any products but there are opportunities to do so. Our focus is on building the cannabis enterprise in Accompong and perfecting our model. As a Trust we are actively pursuing gateway opportunities that will lead to all things related organic cannabis being grown and researched, by products developed and export of cannabis and cannabis products.

We are currently exploring viable cannabis enterprises within Accompong. 


A: The State and the Trust are open to discussing all business proposals with members  hoping to invest with the Trust. Based on the nature of the business the appropriate agreements will be developed. The ACT will work alongside members to ensure safe consumption of cannabis and its by-products.


A: The Trust  promotes and is interested in  food sustainability and security. We welcome any innovative ideas that surround such ventures around permaculture that is in adherence with preserving the environment.
